Privacy Policy — Move the Meter

This Privacy Policy explains how Move the Meter ("we," "us," "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use joinmovethemeter.com (the "Platform"). By using the Platform, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Who This Policy Covers

This Policy applies to three groups of people who interact with the Platform:

Organizations — schools, teams, and their admins who create campaigns.
Donors — supporters who give to a campaign.
Students — the individuals whose fundraising pages are created by an Organization.

2. Information We Collect

From Organizations

Name, email address, and payment/banking information provided through Stripe Connect for the purpose of receiving donations. We do not store full banking details ourselves — that information is held by Stripe.

From Donors

Name (or "anonymous" if selected), email address, donation amount, and any optional message left with a gift. Email is used to send a donation receipt and, only if a Donor opts in, occasional updates about future campaigns from that Organization.

About Students

Name, photo, personal fundraising goal, and an optional personal message, uploaded by an Organization admin or, where enabled, by a parent/guardian using a private edit link. Move the Meter does not knowingly collect information directly from a student who is a minor — all student page content is entered by an adult Organization admin or parent/guardian.

Automatically Collected Information

Standard technical information such as IP address, browser type, and general usage data, collected for security, fraud prevention, and to understand how the Platform is used.

3. How We Use Information

We use collected information to:

Operate and display fundraising campaigns and student pages.
Process donations and setup/renewal fees through Stripe.
Send transactional emails (receipts, edit-link delivery, renewal reminders).
Send communications a Donor has explicitly opted in to receive.
Maintain security and prevent fraud or abuse of the Platform.
Improve the Platform's functionality.

We do not sell personal information to third parties.

4. How Information Is Shared

Stripe processes all payments and Connect account onboarding. Their use of your information is governed by the Stripe Privacy Policy.

Organizations can see the donations, donor names, and messages given to their own campaigns, but cannot see donor email addresses beyond what is necessary to send a receipt, and cannot see other Organizations' data.

We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or to protect the safety of our users.

5. Children's Information and Student Pages

Student fundraising pages contain a minor's name and photo, entered by an adult (an Organization admin or a parent/guardian using a private edit link). Move the Meter does not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13.

Organizations are responsible for obtaining appropriate parental or guardian consent before publishing a student's name, photo, or message.

A parent or guardian may request that a student's page, photo, or information be removed or corrected at any time by contacting support@joinmovethemeter.com.

We will promptly honor any verified request from a parent or guardian to remove their child's information from the Platform.

6. Data Retention

We retain Organization, Donor, and student page information for as long as an account or campaign remains active, and for a reasonable period afterward to comply with financial recordkeeping obligations (including those imposed by Stripe and applicable tax law). Data may be deleted or anonymized upon request, subject to these legal recordkeeping requirements.

7. Your Choices

Donors may opt in or out of future communications from an Organization at the time of donation or via an unsubscribe link in any communication received.
Organizations may request export or deletion of their campaign and donor data by contacting support@joinmovethemeter.com.
Parents/guardians may request removal of a student's page or information at any time.

8. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect information on the Platform, including restricted database access, encrypted connections, and access controls limiting Organization admins to their own data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Cookies and Similar Technologies

The Platform may use cookies or similar technologies for essential site functionality (such as keeping an admin logged in) and, where used, basic analytics to understand Platform usage. We do not use cookies for third-party advertising.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the Platform after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
